Lord Dattatreya is a highly revered Hindu God. His relevance to the progress and development of mankind is timeless. He continues to live in physical body, hidden from everyone and occasionally reveals Himself to the chosen few. He is the son of sage Atri and Anusuya, the holy, chaste wife of sage Atri. Atri and Anusuya were a Divine couple who lived a pure life totally dedicated to God. In Hinduism, there is a Divine way of living life called "Sati Dharma". A woman follows Sati Dharma in which she considers her own husband as the Ultimate Divinity. Many great women saints of India since ancient times followed the Sati Dharma and achieved the Ultimate Goal for which a human being is born. Anusuya followed Sati Dharma to the core. Her Sati Dharma was tested by the Trinity of Goddesses Saraswati, Laxmi and Parvati. They sent their husbands Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva to test the Sati Dharma of Anusuya. Anusuya successfully passed the test and was blessed with the boon of begetting a son who would be a combination of the Trinity Gods namely Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Eventually Anusuya gave birth to Dattatreya. As per Divine Will, Dattatreya undertook the work ordained to Him for uplifting mankind and Divinising the entire Universe. He roams across entire India and the globe, daily even now and goes about accomplishing His work. The Indian Fig tree ( a.k.a. Ficus racemosa ,Ficus glomerata , Cluster Fig tree ) is His favourite and His presence is prominent in this variety of tree. He is especially worshipped on Thursdays. He is guiding many lineages of spiritual gurus who are carrying His work. Though a lot can be written about Him, this article aims to just introduce you to Him. It is left to you now to explore further and find and connect with Him. There are many temples dedicated to Him, especially in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka states of India. Go to His temple and pray sincerely to Him. Establish an "inner connection" with Him. He will surely respond and guide you. Glory to Lord Dattatreya !!!
