PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification


Project Management Professional (PMP) certification  is an internationally recognized certification which is offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), USA and is meant for Project Managers or people who are a part of a project. There are around one million PMP certified individuals worldwide.  The certificate is given after passing an exam. The exam is based on the PMI Project Management Body of Knowledge
 which describes five  domains namely:

  • Initiating the project 

  • Planning the project

  • Executing the project

  • Monitoring and controlling the project

  • Closing the project 


The exam consists of 200 multiple choice questions. The prerequisites for appearing for the exam are that candidate must have completed a high school diploma or an associates degree with 60 months and 7,500 hours of project management experience, or a bachelor's degree with 36 months and 4,500 hours of project management experience. Also 35 hours of PMP course training has to be completed by the candidate.

This certification applies to all types of projects, be it civil, mechanical, software, construction or electrical.
